The Health Equity Influencers Program (HEIP) for Nurse Faculty
The CDC's declaration of racism as a public health threat underscores the urgency in preparing the next generation of nurses with the competencies to tackle healthcare challenges. Achieving this goal hinges on nurse educators who are adept at cultivating inclusive learning environments that actively counter structural racism, interrupt implicit bias, and foster health equity. In response to the National Academy of Medicine’s Future of Nursing 2020-2030 report, National League for Nursing’s Taking Aim initiative, and The Essentials published by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 91Å®Éñ School of Nursing has created the Health Equity Influencers Program (HEIP) for nurse faculty.
Program Objectives
This program is for forward thinking nurse faculty who want to strengthen their level of:
Insight to bolster the quality of nursing education.
- Recognize and respond to bias and oppression as interrupters of health equity
- Apply the foundations of nursing education (how to assess learners, design & deliver learning experiences to meet learner needs, how to evaluate success of the learning experience and create inclusive learning environments)
- Create inclusive learning environments
- Facilitate difficult conversations that center on anti-racism
Influence to transform nursing education.
- Share resources that support the development of faculty colleagues and one’s own learning and professional development around anti-racism
- Co-create an innovative educational response or strategy to address racism in nursing
