Alexander Root

Alex Root is a computational biologist with diverse interests in healthy vs diseased ecosystems, populations, and organisms. His research often makes interdisciplinary connections among biology, computer science, and mathematics. He earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, an M.A. in Mathematics Education, and a Ph.D. in Computational Biology. He is currently doing research in how organs develop normally and during cancer; how human impacts affect coastal ecosystems in terms of the services they provide and their biodiversity; and how artificial intelligence can make urban agriculture more sustainable.
