Q&A With Karen

How did you hear about Mercy?

"I first heard about Mercy in 1960 when I was a schoolgirl at Good Shepherd School in NYC. Sister Della Rita looked at me and suggested that when I grew up, I should go to Mercy College.  I guess I'm nothing if not compliant."

Why did you choose to work for Mercy?

"I earned my BSN in the mid-1970s and had it in mind to return to school to earn a master's in nursing education. My clinical area of interest is Maternal/Child health, and my certification is in Neonatal ICU nursing.  In 2005, I met Dr. Miriam Ford at a recruiting event, and Mercy seemed like a perfect fit for me, and the right time. After graduating from Mercy College (summa cum laude) in 2007 I began teaching, at first as an adjunct in the nursing program and later I also began doing academic advising for our RN- to BS program. I loved helping the nurses meet their career goals.  When St. Vincent's Hospital closed in 2010, it was a no-brainer to join the Mercy family full-time."

What is the best part about working at Mercy?

"The best part of working at Mercy is our wonderful students. There is something special about our Mercy Nurses that makes the experience truly rewarding. Every cohort has been memorable, from our first graduating class of 2019 until this year. My colleagues, who are smart, caring, and capable, also make it a great place to work."
