Overview

Communication is an essential skill that all students need to succeed, whether as children, teens or adults. With the training you will receive from our Teaching Literacy, TESOL, and Bilingual Education programs, you can respond to the critical national needs for literacy teachers  and for teachers of English language learners. Your certifications will enhance your standing as a curriculum leader and provide new professional options going forward. 

You will have the chance to prepare non-native speakers and improve or master their English in order to gain professional footholds, in the United States and internationally.

Literacy and Multilingual Studies, M.S.

The Literacy and Multilingual Studies M.S. Program aims to develop teacher candidates with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for effective teaching and learning in diverse settings. The courses in the program reflect the principles highlighted by the Science of Reading and adhere to the learning standards of Literacy and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

Literacy (All Grades), Adv Cert

The Advanced Certificate in Literacy Program equips educators with the skills and knowledge to become critical literacy practitioners. It blends research-based literacy approaches with multicultural perspectives, preparing teachers to support diverse learners across all grades. Our foundational courses are aligned with the key components of the Science of Reading.

Five Year Dual Degree Teacher Education Program

Program Accreditations

Our programs are NCATE/CAEP accredited and recognized by the International Literacy Association (ILA) and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), the specialized professional associations for Literacy programs and TESOL programs in the United States. 

Important Information

This clinically-rich grant-funded program offers teachers a tuition reduced pathway to ESOL certification, with the goal of addressing the shortage of NYC teachers in English as a Second Language/English as a New Language.

BS or MS Degree in Education or a liberal arts and sciences content area. Initial Certification is also required for advanced program options.
